Information
plant 2–6 in. high; stems moderately stout, suberect or somewhat decumbent; leaves 2–4, ovate to elliptic-oblong, subobtuse or apiculate, 3/4–2 1/2 in. long, 1/2–1 1/4 in. broad, submembranous, the lower spreading, upper much smaller; scapes 2–6 in. high; spikes 1/2–1 1/2 in. long, usually lax and few-flowered; bracts broadly ovate, acute or shortly acuminate, 1/3– 3/4 in. long, the lower somewhat reflexed; pedicels about 2 lin. long, with broad denticulate ridges; flowers rather small, brownish-yellow lined with red; sepals and petals united to nearly the middle, each with a strong central nerve; odd sepal oblong, obtuse, about 1 1/2 lin. long; lateral sepals falcate-oblong, obtuse, rather longer than the odd sepal; petals ovate, obtuse, about 1 1/2 lin. long; lip cucullate, 3–3 1/2 lin. long, with about 9 strong nerves, apex narrowed to a broad reflexed point, margin and nerves outside slightly scaberulous; spurs broadly saccate, very short; column curved, 2 lin. long; stigma ovate-oblong, subobtuse, about 1/2 lin. long, broader than long; rostellum broad, 3-lobed at the apex, nearly as long as the stigma. null

Notes
Near S. bracteatum, Thunb., in floral character, but markedly different in habit. Bolus remarks that it is found in the clefts of steep shaded rocks, while S. bracteatum affects open sunny flats and heathy mountain sides. Schlechter reduces it to the rank of a variety of S. bracteatum.
