Information
Much branched shrub 0,6—2 m tall; stems scabrid to pilose, gland-dotted. Leaves petiolate; blade simple, coriaceous, obovate to oblanceolate or broadly ellipti­cal, 15-30 (-35) x 5-20 mm, green, subglabrous to slightly scabrid or appressed-pubescent, reticulate below, freely gland-dotted on both surfaces, apex obtuse, apiculate, base cuneate, margin subentire to denticulate. Inflorescence a large panicle 100 — 300 mm long; verticils 2-flowered. Calyx reddish purple, glandular-hispid and gland-dotted, en­larging to 12 mm long in fruit. Corolla blue or purplish blue often with white on the lower lip, 18-25 (-30) mm long; tube 6-8 mm long, not or scarcely exceeding the calyx; upper lip slightly falcate, 12—20 mm long; lower lip 10—15 mm long.
Habitat
A relatively constant, strongly aromatic species, occasionally confused with 5. africana-caerulea (no. 4).

Range
Distributed from Clanwilliam to Cape Town and eastwards to Ladismith and Riversdale districts, in fynbos along watercourses, in sandy soil among rocks and along roadsides, often locally common. Map 46.
