Information
A woody branched glabrous shrub, 1–2 ft. high; branches with closely placed nodes, not jointed. Leaves 1/10 in. long, obovate or orbicular, sessile and minutely decurrent at the base. Spikes of flowers small, dense; floral bracts similar to the leaves, with usually 3 flowers under each bract, more or less adnate thereto.

Notes
The Mediterranean H. amplexicaulis resembles altogether the young examples of H. perfoliata, but appears never more than annual, and is maintained as a distinct species by Boissier.
