Information
Rhizomatous perennial; culms 20–150 cm. high, usually spongy at the base with cross-veins in the papery sheaths. Leaf-blades flat or folded, 5–35 cm. long, 2–10 mm. wide, ridged above, glabrous, papillose or pubescent. Panicle cylindrical, 3–30 cm. long, dense. Spikelets narrowly ovate, laterally compressed, 1.7–2.5 mm. long, mostly glabrous; lower glume ovate, ± 1/2 as long as the spikelet; upper glume membranous; lower floret ♂, its palea almost as long as the lemma.

Altitude range
1200–2300 m.
