Notes
Darran, duran ad (Som.). The Eritrean and Somali material lacks the subglobose uppermost leaves of most Asian material. Brenan (in herb.) tentatively assigned two collections from along the lower Wabe Shebele in Ethiopia to this species. They differ from more typical material by the rather distinctive erect habit, uniformly narrow very glaucous leaves and the apparently horizontal seed. These specimens could represent an additional taxon also likely to occur in Somalia. One specimen from S1 (Puccioni & Stefanini 300, from north of Luuq) is immature, but probably belongs here. Specimens cited by Chiovenda in Fl. Somala 1: 294 (1929) as “? Suaeda volkensii ” C. B. Cl. (Puccioni & Stefanini 297, from N of Luuq) and (op. cit.: 295) as “ Suaeda vermiculata ” (Puccioni & Stefanini 20, from N3, Hafun, and Puccioni & Stefanini 110, from S2, Mahaddei) have not been traced, but may possibly also belong here.
