Annual herb, 0.1–0.4 m tall; stems shortly pubescent and setose. Upper leaves ± narrowly elliptic, up to 12 x 2 cm, serrate, glabrous to ± pubescent; lower leaves smaller, pinnately lobed. Flowers 1–9 in short-pedunculate racemes, homostylous; pedicels ± 1 mm long. Calyx pubescent and sparsely setose; tube 8–11 mm long. Petals yellow or orange, free part c. 6 x 3 mm. Capsules ellipsoid, c. 7–10 x 3–4 mm, shortly setose, with a c. 0.75 mm long beak. Seeds curved; aril white, about as long as the seed.
