Information
Plants erect to decumbent, 0.5–4 m high; stems 5–7 mm in diam. Leaf-blades 3.5–8 cm x 3–7.5 cm, cordate, acute at the apex, glabrous; petiole 2–4 cm long. Inflorescences 15–30-flowered, 3–12 flowers open at the same time; peduncles 3.5–5.5 mm long; pedicels 6–8 mm long. Corolla-lobes c. 5 x 1 mm, oblong, yellow, sometimes purple at base. Corona white, 3.5–4 mm high, exceeding the gynostegium but not obscuring it, staminal and interstaminal parts fused for more than 3/4 of corona length, free parts of staminal lobes ovate to 2-fid, free parts of interstaminal lobes ovate to oblong. Gynostegium c. 1 x 1.5 mm, on top of c. 1.5–1.8 mm long stipe; connective appendages c. 0.4 x 0.25 mm, triangular; stigmatic head c. 1 x 0.5 mm, flat. Follicles c. 4.5 cm long, winged. Seeds c. 6.5 x 3.5 mm, winged, with tuft of c. 2 cm long hairs.
Range
N1 Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, and drier parts of eastern Africa southwards to Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Altitude range
1200–1700 m.
