Annual, up to 50 cm tall, glabrous. Leaves with blade triangular or oblong-triangular, up to 7 x 4 cm, obtuse or subacute at the apex, cuneate to truncate or subcordate at the base; petiole about as long as the blade. Flowers bisexual or male; pedicels solitary from each ochrea of the inflorescence, usually bearing 2 flowers, a primary and a secondary. Inner tepals of primary flowers becoming 12–18(–23) mm long and wide, membranous, reticulate, 2 tepals of each flower with tubercles. Nut of primary flower 3.5–4.7(–5.2) mm, of secondary flower somewhat smaller.
