Information
A much-branched shrub, reaching a height of 6 ft. Leaves often crowded on short striate lateral branchlets, distinctly petioled, oblong, or the upper lanceolate, subacute, glabrous, 2–3 in. long, narrowed to the base, rather firm in texture, triplinerved; ochreæ truncate. Flowers diœcious, forming ample lax or dense terminal panicles, the very compound lower branches only subtended at the base by reduced leaves; flowers 2–5 in a cluster; pedicels capillary, often longer than the flowers. Outer perianth-segments reflexed, inner in fruit cordate-orbicular, 3 lin. in diam., scarious, strongly reticulate.
