Flowering stems thickly covered with red-brown, bristly, glandular hairs interspersed with weak whitish ones. Prickles up to 3 mm. long, mostly slightly hooked. Leaves trifoliolate; terminal leaflet broadly ovate, ovate-elliptic, or obovate-elliptic, 7–7.5 × 4–6 cm., obtuse, basally truncate to subcordate, 1–1.5 cm. petiolulate; lateral leaflets smaller and narrower, elliptic or oblong-elliptic, 4.5–6 × 2.5–3.5 cm., mostly obtuse and ± narrowed to each end, subsessile; all irregularly serrate, the teeth up to 2 mm. deep, ± triangular, their apices sharp due to excurrence of the nerves, green on both sides but paler beneath, rather thickly covered on both sides with stipitate glands like those on the stems. Inflorescence leafy, loosely cylindrical-paniculate, of few, large axillary and terminal flowers ± 2 cm. in diameter when fully open; the axis and pedicels and calyx-lobes ± densely stipitate-glandular; pedicels 6–20 mm. long, erect or spreading. Calyx 7–14 mm. long, deeply divided into lanceolate, apically caudate lobes 6–12 mm. long, densely stipitate-glandular outside, green-tomentose within. Petals rose, broadly ovate, 1.1 cm. long, 1 cm. broad, roundly obtuse, basally truncate to a short wedge. Carpels glabrous. Fruit “large, red.”
