Notes
I am convinced that G. Don’ s D. loureiriana is the same as D. macrocalyx Klotzsch despite the arguments to the contrary by both B.L. Burtt and F. White. It is well known that Loureiro’ s descriptions are very often faulty but nothing else exists on the Mozambique coast which could have been mistaken for a variety of D. lotus L. Unfortunately no specimens of Loureiro’ s plant are preserved either in Paris or the British Museum. At least the procedure obviates the absurdity of having to restrict the epithet subsp usambarensis to the subSPECIES not occurring in the Usambaras (see F.W. White in F.Z. 7(1): 266 adnot. (1983)).
