Information
Shrub, up to 6 m tall; stems glabrous to hairy. Leaves opposite, with offensive smell; blades ovate to elliptic-ovate, 4–21 x 2–11 cm, acuminate at the apex, attenuate into petiole at the base, entire to coarsely toothed, glabrous to sparsely pubescent; petiole 3–35 mm long. Flowers in leafy cymes forming pyramidal long-pedunculate panicles. Calyx-tube 2–3 mm long; lobes ovate-triangular, 1.5–2.5 mm long, soon reflexed, glandular inside. Corolla-tube greenish white or green, asymmetric, 8–10 mm long; throat hairy; lateral lobes white, oblong, 8–9.5 mm long, midlobe pale blue-green to purple, spathulate, 1.3–1.6 cm long. Fruit 6–7 x 7–11 mm, 3–4-lobed.

Notes
First record for Somalia. The only collection seen represents subsp. sansibarensis, two further subspecies were recognized by Verdcourt in Fl. Trop. E. Afr. (1992). The species is very close to R. myricoides.
