Information
Perennial herb with slightly woody rootstock, producing fibrous or subfleshy roots. Stem twining, up to 1 m or more tall, uni- or bifariously puberulous. Leaves: petiole up to about 40 mm long; blade cordate-ovate, acuminate, very variable in size, up to about 80 mm long, thinly puberu­lous or glabrescent.
Habitat
There is little difficulty in distinguishing this subspecies with its compact, sessile or subsessile inflorescences.

Range
In addition to the original species from the eastern Cape, three subspecies are recognised, represented by isolated specimens in southern Natal and southern Transvaal. With fuller information it might be found desirable to reinstate Riocreuxia woodii and raise the other two subspecies to specific rank. The main distinctions are indicated in the key to the species following the generic description.
