Straggling shrub up to 3 m. tall or small tree 3–4·5 m. high; branches reddish-brown, straight or tortuous, cylindric, slightly striate and sparsely lenticellate, glabrous to ± densely puberulous. Petiole reddish, 1·5–5 cm. long, stout, slightly canaliculate above, glabrous to ± puberulous. Leaflets light- to dull-green or reddish-brown above, ochraceous to ferruginous below, rigidly coriaceous, glabrous on both surfaces except for a few hairs at the base, entire; median leaflet 5–10 × 2·8–5·5 cm., elliptic or broadly elliptic or nearly subcircular, roundish or obtuse to subacute and mucronate at the apex, cuneate and narrowed into a petiolule at the base; lateral leaflets a little smaller than the median one, oblong (up to 6 × 2·3 cm.) or elliptic (up to 8·7 × 5·3 cm.), obtuse at the apex, asymmetrical and oblique at the base; midrib slender, with both the lateral nerves and the very close reticulation prominent on both surfaces but more distinctly so below. Panicles terminal, very ample, up to 24 cm. long, the axis and the nearly divaricate branches reddish, rather thick, cylindric, glabrous to hispidulous; bracts 1·5–3 mm. long, lanceolate, acute; pedicels 0·5–1·5 mm. long. Flowers pale yellow. Calyx-segments ovate-lanceolate, subacute, glabrous or ciliate on the margin. Petals 1·5–1·75 mm. long, ovate, obtuse. Stamens with filaments 0·75 mm. long and anthers c. 0·5 mm. long. Drupe immature, black, subglobose.
