stems 12–18 in. high, capillary, terete, purple-spotted; branches curving, intertwining; leaf-sheaths 1/8– 1/4 in. long, closely convolute, coriaceous, membranous above; apex subulate, mucronate; spikelets solitary, 1/8 in. long, oblong; spathe mucronate, half the length of the spikelet; bracts papery, ovate-oblong, acute, scarcely mucronate; outer perianth-segments linear-oblong, acute, cartilaginous, as long as or longer than the bracts; lateral conduplicate, only slightly villous, scarcely carinate; inner 3 shorter, oblong-lanceolate; ovary compressed, 2-celled styles. null

COAST REGION Swellendam Div.; at the foot of the Lange Bergen, near Swellendam, Burchell, 7430, ♀! not 7420 as quoted in DC. Monog. Phan. i. 287, that number being an Umbellifer.
