stems 2 ft. high, slender, simple or sparingly branched, terete, coarsely tubercled; sheaths about 1/2 in. long, tightly convolute, terminating in a subulate, appressed mucro; male spikelets 2–5, clustered in a one-sided cyme, each about 1/4 in. long, oblong, erect or spreading, supported at the base by a short, bract-like spathe; bracts ovate-lanceolate, prolonged at the apex into a long recurved awn; flowers oblong-lanceolate, shorter than the bracts; outer perianth-segments oblong-lanceolate; lateral conduplicate, villous-keeled; inner subequal, flatter; anthers linear-oblong, apiculate; ovary ovoid-globose; style bifid; capsule 2-celled. null
