stems cæspitose, procurrent, 2–3 ft. long, slender, erect, unbranched, terete, papillose; leaf-sheaths 1 in. long, coriaceous, fuscous, nervoso-striate, membranous at the ovate, acute apex, mucronulate; male spikelets pendulous, pedicellate, oblong or obovate, flattened, scarcely 1/2 in. long; bracts oblong-lanceolate, scarcely mucronulate, much exceeding the arcuate, oblong flowers; perianth-segments oblong, acute; lateral conduplicate, with a narrowly winged keel; female plant as in the male; spikelets 1–2, terminal, erect, cylindric or oblong, many-flowered, rather less than 1 in. long; spathe acute; bracts squarrose, oblong-lanceolate, submuticous, coriaceous, nervoso-striate, longer than the flowers; outer perianth-segments arcuate, oblong, acute, conduplicate, winged-carinate; inner oblong-lanceolate; ovary turbinate, compressed, coria-ceous, 1-celled; styles 3. null
