Information
stems 18 in. high, capillary, terete, purple-spotted, branched; sheaths tightly convolute, 1/4 in. long, membranous, ferruginous, mucronato-aristate; awn appressed; apex hyaline; male spikelets numerous, in linear cymes, each about 1/8 in. long, oblong-ovate, 2–4-flowered, with an open bract-like spathe at the base; bracts oblong, mucronato-aristate, hyaline at the apex; flowers ovate-lanceolate; perianth-segments rigid, linear-oblong; lateral conduplicate, villous-keeled; inner smaller; anthers linear-oblong; female spikelets solitary, 1-flowered; bracts lanceolate, mucronate; perianth as in the male, but segments more acute; capsule obliquely ovate-oblong, 1-celled by abortion, crowned by the rudiments of the style. null
