Trematosperma cordatum Urb. [family ICACINACEAE], (1883), non Pyrenacantha cordata Thode;. type: N2, without precise locality, a specimen grown in Berlin from material collected by Hildebrandt in Somalia (not seen).
Information
Woody climber with up to several m long stems from subglobose tuber up to 1.5 m in diam.; young stems appressed pubescent, older stems and tuber with greyish-white papery flaking bark. Leaves ± densely pubescent with appressed hairs; blade broadly ovate to reniform, 4–12 x 3–13 cm, acute to broadly emarginate at the apex, cordate at the base, with palmate venation, shallowly lobed; petiole 1.5–4.5(–8.5) cm long. Plants dioecious, monoecious or rarely with bisexual flowers. Corolla yellowish-green, with lobes c. 1.5 mm long, pubescent outside. Male flowers in up to 6 cm long tomentose spikes. Female flowers in short lateral spikes with hydathodes apically, sometimes on short branches at base of male spikes; ovary densely hairy. Bisexual flowers sometimes present at base of male spikes. Drupes ellipsoid, somewhat compressed, 15–20 x 10–14 x 7–10 mm, becoming yellowish, hispid.

Notes
Adahi, adahi ad, mowe (Som.). The collections from northern Somalia have leaves more densely hairy beneath and usually shorter and less twining stems compared to other material.
