Information
glabrous; stems tufted on a very short rhizome, 8–24 in. long, slender or medium; leaves all near the base of the stem, 2/3 its length, 1/6 in. broad where the stem is medium, usually much narrower, sometimes filiform; umbel 2–3 in. in diam., dense or lax, or with few or only 1 spike; bracts 3, lowest 2–8 in. long, similar to the leaves; spikes of 4–8 closely-spiked spikelets, ebracteate; spikelets 1/4– 1/3 by 1/12– 1/10 in., much compressed, 6–10-nutted; glumes ovate, boat-shaped, obtuse, black chestnut-brown with prominent green or yellowish keel, in fruit scarcely imbricate; style-branches 2; nut ellipsoid, 2/3 the length of the glume, brown, closely and regularly marked by raised dots. null
