Information
glabrous, stout; roots fibrous, very thick (probably grew in water); stems densely packed, thickened at the base by large leaf-sheaths, 8–20 in. long.; leaves longer than the stem, trigonous-terete, 1/12 in. in diam., all very close to the base of the stem; umbel 1/2–1 1/2 in. in diam., condensed nearly into 1 compound spike; bracts 3, lowest 3–6 in. long, similar to the leaves; spikelets 1/3– 1/2 by 1/12– 1/10 in., rigid, moderately compressed, shining chestnut-black; glumes ovate, boat-shaped, obtuse, closely imbricate; style-branches 2; nut narrowly-ellipsoid, compressed, half as long as the glume, brown; superficial cells quadrate. null
