Perennial herb, woody at the base, 17–24 cm tall, branched about the base. Stem and branches pubescent below when young, soon glabrescent, tetragonous except at the extreme base. Main stem and branch leaves opposite, linear to narrowly linear-oblanceolate, 15–32 x 2–2.5 mm, furnished with straight whitish hairs when young, soon ± glabrescent, rather blunt, attenuate below, not distinctly petiolate. Inflorescence of solitary, lax, simple, axillary spikes up to c. 13 cm long including the peduncle. Flowers sessile. Tepals green: outer 2 broadly lanceolate, 2 mm, shortly spreading-hairy on the 3 equally prominent nerves, narrowly hyaline-margined; inner 2 with a strong, spreading-hairy central nerve and 2 glabrous slender laterals, broadly hyaline-margined; middle tepal with 2 strong, spreading-pilose nerves and one glabrous slender lateral, and one broad and one narrow margin. No pseudostaminodes. Style c. 0.5 mm. Capsule not seen.
