a straight erect shrub 6–7 ft. high; branchlets adpressed silky-pubescent; leaves 1/2–1 1/2 in. long, 1 1/2–3 lin. broad, oblong-linear or lanceolate-linear, acute or sharply mucronate, rigidly but rather thinly coriaceous, densely adpressed silky-pubescent or tomentose; male inflorescence conic or ellipsoid, 1/3– 3/4 in. long, scarcely 1/2 in. in diam., surrounded by several leaves about 3/4 in. long, the latter often rusty-pubescent; floral bracts 1/4 lin. long, oblong, subacute, pilose; perianth-tube 3/4 lin. long, somewhat compressed, pilose; segments 1 lin. long, spathulate-linear, pilose; limb 1/4 lin. long, elliptic, subobtuse, pilose; anthers sessile, 1/4 lin. long, oblong; style 1 1/2 lin. long, filiform, glabrous; stigma 1/4 lin. long, ellipsoid; hypogynous scales 1/2 lin. long, linear; young female head 1/2 in. long, oblong-cylindric; bracts 1 lin. long, 2 lin. broad, transversely oblong, tomentose; perianth-tube 1 lin. long, compressed, pilose; segments 1/2 lin. long, linear, pilose; limb 1/6 lin. long, oblong, pilose; staminodes 1/8 lin. long, linear; style 3/4 lin. long, linear, broadening above, glabrous; stigma truncate; ovary 1/2 lin. long, compressed, oblong, pilose; hypogynous scales 2/3 lin. long, linear; mature head ellipsoid, 1–1 1/4 in. long, scarcely 1 in. in diam.; bracts tomentose outside; fruits compressed, wrinkled, elliptic, glabrous, about 2 lin. long. null
