Perennial herb, 10–20 cm tall. Stems slender, erect, branched, crisped-pubescent. Leaves alternate, subsessile, narrowly-elliptic to linear, 10–30≈(2–)3–11 mm, acute to rounded and mucronate, base cuneate, secondary venation and reticulation inconspicuous, minutely pubescent to glabrous. Flowers pink, crimson, bluish or purple, in 3–6-flowered lateral racemes 1–4 cm long, rachis crisped-pubescent; bracts lanceolate, 0.5–0.8 mm long, crisped-pubescent, caducous; bracteoles lanceolate, 0.5 mm long, crisped-pubescent, caducous; pedicels 2–3.5 mm, crisped-pubescent. Posterior sepal ovate, 2–3≈1.5–1.8 mm, acuminate, ciliolate; wing sepals greenish, obliquely elliptic, 4.5–6≈2.5–3 mm, sparsely pubescent to glabrous; anterior sepals lanceolate, 1.5–2≈0.7–1.3 mm, acute, ciliolate, free. Upper petals obovate, 4–5≈2.5–3.5 mm; carina 4–5≈1.5–3 mm; crest 1.5–2.5 mm long, fimbriate. Stamens 8. Capsule suborbicular in outline, 4.5–6 mm in diameter, asymmetrically bilobate, sparsely pubescent, narrowly winged, wing 0.5 mm wide. Seeds ovoid, 2.5–3≈1.3–1.5 mm, sericeous-pubescent, caruncle 0.2 mm long, with three short appendages. Fig. 10: 5, p. 18.
