Information
Annual herb, 15–40(–60) cm tall. Stems slender, simple or branched, the secondary flowering branchlets shorter than the terminal primary one, crisped-pubescent. Leaves alternate, petiolate (petiole 3 mm, crisped-pubescent), linear-lanceolate to oblong lanceolate, 20–100(–120)≈3–25 mm, subacute to rounded, base cuneate, glabrescent to glabrous. Flowers white, mauve to purple, in lax terminal and lateral racemes 2–10 cm long, rachis crisped-pubescent; bracts lanceolate, 1.5–2 mm long, ciliate, persistent, bracteoles lanceolate, 0.5–1.5 mm long, ciliate, persistent; pedicels 3–5 mm, usually crisped-pubescent. Posterior sepal keel-shaped, 3–3.5≈1.5–2 mm, glabrescent; wing sepals obliquely ovate, 6–9≈5–6 mm, with ± inconspicuous venation, ± pubescent, at least at the base; anterior sepals keel-shaped, 2.5–3≈1.5–2 mm, free. Upper petals obliquely ovate, 2–3≈1.5–2 mm; carina 4.5–5≈2 mm; crest 2–2.5 mm long, fimbriate. Stamens 8. Style 6–7 mm long. Capsule obovate-elliptic in outline, 3.5–4≈3.5 mm, winged (wing up to 0.5 mm wide), ciliate. Seeds ellipsoid, 3.5–4≈1.5 mm, densely hairy (hairs 0.2–0.8 mm long); caruncle subsymmetric, kidney-shaped, with three small appendages. Fig. 6: 3, p. 13.
