Notes
The type [Tanzania, Usagara, Madessa, Stuhmann 8112 (B†, holo.)] of P. cryptantha Chodat [in Engl. E.J. 48(1–2): 311 (1912); T.T.C.L.: 456 (1949); Paiva in Fontqueria 50: 307 (1998)] has disappeared and there are no duplicates. It is almost certainly P. sadebeckiana Gürke. The type of P. erlangeri Gürke (Ellenbeck 1984, from Ethiopia) has been destroyed at B.So I do not know what P. erlangeri is; but I do know that it cannot be in subsection Eriopterae (= Blepharidium), where Chodat puts it, because of the original description of the wings; it is in subsection Tinctorieae or Asiaticae. The material from Somalia and Kenya which Thulin in Fl. Somalia 1: 84 (1993) calls P. erlangeri is a different taxon (P. kajii Paiva), occurring in Somalia, Kenya and Tanzania, and not in Ethiopia. The type of P. erlangeri mentioned by Thulin, loc. cit., and by Gilbert in Fl. Eth. 2,1: 180 (2000) is probably either P. obtusissima or P. sadebeckiana .
