Much branched annual herb up to 60 cm. tall with slender, glabrous or almost glabrous stems. Leaves 10–20 x 0.3–1 mm., linear to almost acicular, with incurved margins. Flowers yellowish-green and blue, pedicels 2–3 mm. long, in subcapitate, lateral racemes about 1 cm. in diam. with glabrous rhachis and small caducous bracts and bracteoles c. 1 mm. long. Posterior sepal 1.5 mm. long; wing sepals 4–5 x 2–2.5 mm., obliquely elliptic, acute at the apex, glabrous; anterior sepals 1.2 mm. long, connate. Upper petals 1.8 x 1 mm., broadly oblong; carina 4.5 x 2 mm., crest 1.5 mm. long. Stamens 6 fertile and 2 staminodes. Capsule 2–2.5 x 1.8–2 mm., suborbicular in outline, glabrous, marginal wing 0.5 mm. broad. Seeds (somewhat immature) 1.5 x 0.8 mm., ellipsoid, with white, silky hairs; caruncle 0.5 mm. long, appendages scarcely developed. (Capsule and seeds described from Angolan material).
Habitat
On termite mounds (N. Rhodesia) and in swamps (Angola).
