Information
Young shoots mostly spreading pubescent (in the Flora area), later glabrous. Petals 1–2.8 cm. long. Carpels and stigmas mostly glabrescent. Fig. 16/1, p. 68.
Range
DISTR. U2, 4 widespread in W. Africa from Nigeria to Angola (Cabinda), Gabon, Central African Republic and Congo
Altitude range
about 1100 m.

Notes
A rare W. African element just penetrating into East Africa. Var. gabonicum (Le Thomas) Verdc. has larger leaves and thicker petioles and pedicels. The Forest Department Uganda have sight records of the species from Bugala I. in the Sese Is. The only ripe fruiting material I have seen from Uganda, namely Christy 5 (Budongo Forest, 14 Sept. 1905), has the seeds scarcely wrinkled but the material is very poor. Before adequate fruiting material has been seen, it is not possible to comment on the importance of this.
