Notes
This has always been considered to be the same as the West African G. oliveri (Engl.) Verdc. but that has much smaller monocarps and seeds, the latter not being deeply grooved, also glabrescent carpels. It comes much nearer to G. suaveolens (Engl. & Diels) Verdc. and must be considered a subspecies of that. Some Congo specimens are scarcely distinct, but I have hesitated to unite the two, there being a distinct “look” about the foliage of the geographically very isolated Usambara population.
