Small shrub, 1–3 ft. high or more, erect, branched, covered with soft short whitish close appressed pubescence. Leaves oval-oblong, mucronate, narrowed at the base, coriaceous, entire or (in Indian specimens) acutely serrulate, sessile, about 1 1/2 in. long by 2/5 in. wide. Capitula ovoid or campanulate, about 1/4 in. wide, many-flowered, on short pedicels or subsessile, in dense terminal tomentose or pubescent corymbs. Flowers pink. Scales of involucre pluriseriate, imbricated, appressed; outer broadly ovate, short, obtuse; innermost linear, acute, scarious. Receptacle flat, naked. Achenes glabrous. Pappus of sterile flowers uniseriate, sordid; setæ complanate, confluent into a sheath below.
