Information
Tree, up to 15 m tall, with a bushy rounded or conical crown; bark usually rough and reticulately fissured. Leaves with petiole 4–5 mm long; blade elliptic, obovate or rarely almost round, 1.5–10 x 1.2–7.3 cm, rounded to cuneate at the base, mostly acute at the apex, glabrous or with a covering of minute glandular papillae on the lower surface; venation nearly always prominent and reticulate. Flowers white or cream, c. 3 mm long, in axillary and terminal panicles. Calyx often shortly 4-lobed, c. 2 mm long. Petals 3–3.5 mm long. Filaments 0.8–1 mm long; anthers 1–1.5 mm long. Ovules 2 but only one develops to a seed. Fruit ellipsoid, 1–1.6 x 0.7–1 cm. Seed ovoid, somewhat flattened, 0.9–1.1 x 0.6–0.7 cm.

Garas, towsi (Som.). The fruits are edible, and the kernel is also boiled and used as a stomach medicine. The identity of the three syntypes of D. macalusoi is not quite certain.
