Information
Usually epiphytic, rarely on rocks. Rhizome-scales light brown, 5–14 mm long, 0.5–1.7 mm wide. Sterile basal fronds erect, cuneate, 30–60 cm long, 15–30 cm wide, truncate at the apex, upper part entire or irregularly dentate, lower part entire, densely white stellate-pubescent beneath. Fertile or sterile foliage fronds spreading or pendulous, wedge-shaped, 30–90 cm long, ± symmetrical, once to twice dichotomously forked, cuneate at base, the apex entire or irregularly dentate, stellate-pubescent above, later glabrescent, velvety white stellate-pubescent beneath. Soral patches 2, dark red brown, situated around the ultimate sinuses or apically, horizontally placed, broadly triangular to U-shaped.

Notes
Many authors spell the specific epithet with two m’s but Palisot de Beauvois’ original spelling has one and is a specific derivation from Stemaria Sw., which I have been unable to trace.
