Notes
The type has 6–10 pairs of leaflets, more rounded at the sides. Angolan material can have ± distinct styles. Burtt (3556) preserved seedlings with 2–4 pairs of leaflets which he had germinated from civet cat dung at Kazikazi. Two specimens have been seen from vegetation described as ‘submontane rain-forest’ and ‘ Parinari / Piptadenia forest’ at 1200–1400 m., Morogoro District, Uluguru Mts., NNE. valley of Lupanga, 28 Sept. 1988, Pócs & Knox 88192/0; Iringa District, Vigola, 2 Oct. 1958, Ede 52. They are trees 6–13.5 m. tall. The leaflets are distinctive, the apical notch more pronounced than usual, up to 1 mm. deep and the upper leaflets are more narrowly cuneate at the base. They may represent a further subspecies but the material is sterile.
