Notes
I referred Tanzanian material of the genus to Phylohydrax madagascariensis (Willd. ex Roem. & Schultes) Puff; there appear to be foliage differences. The relationship between the two species will remain doubtful until better material of both, particularly fruits and seeds, are available. The Asiatic species Hydrophylax maritima L.f. is very distinct.
