branches virgate; twigs fastigiate, velvetty-pubescent; leaves erect, sub-imbricate, rigid, linear, mucronate, with revolute margins, glabrous and papillose-scabrous above, the younger appressed, villous; raceme capitate; bracteæ lanceolate, equalling the flowers or a little longer; calyx sub-cylindrical, tomentose; segments acute; capsule ovate-globose, smooth. 1–2 feet high, branches erect, greyish. Lower leaves 4–6, upper about 3 lines long, 1/2– 3/4 line wide, sulcate and tomentose beneath. Petiole 1/2–1 line long. Flowers about 12–16 in a head-like raceme. Pedicels 1 line long. Calyx cylindrical, sub-campanulate, 2 lines long; segments erecto-patent, 3 times shorter than the tube. Style half as long as the calyx. Capsule the size of a small pea.
