Information
leaves linear-subulate, or filiform; pedicels at length as long as the flowers or longer; calyx close-pressed on the ovoid or lenticular, obliquely acuminate, punctate capsule, persistent. Glaucous green, 2 inches to 1 1/2 feet long, very smooth, or rarely minutely downy below, with the aspect of a Galium. Stems ascending or diffuse, branched from the base; branches alternate, opposite or whorled, filiform; branchlets spreading, bearing the flowers. Lower internodes 2–3 inches long, upper shorter. Leaves 3–6 lines long, 1/2 line wide, 3–12 in a whorl; the uppermost very small, at length reflexed. Flowers copious, crowded in the axils, umbellate; pedicels unequal, 1/2–2 lines long. Sepals oblong, obtuse, white-edged, 1/2 line long. Capsule brown.
Distribution
SOUTH AFRICA Cape Flats, and on mountain sides round Capetown, common. Zwartland; and near the Zwartkop's River and Assagaiskloof, Thunberg. E. & Z.! &c. Zey.! No. 620 and 2489. July-Nov. (Herb. Thunb., T.C.D., Sond.).
