Information
Robust glabrous perennial herb 1·5–2·5 m. high. Stem subterete, rather angular, especially in the upper parts, with relatively few, coarse grooves. Lamina triangular in outline, (2) 3-pinnate. Petioles roughly equalling the lamina, with large basal sheaths. Ultimate divisions 15–80 × 6–15 mm., linear-lanceolate to narrowly lanceolate, rather variable but most frequently with a regular serrate margin, with small mucronate tips to the teeth; leaflets sometimes rather jaggedly and irregularly dissected. Uppermost leaves with very narrow linear segments and finally present only as sheathing bases on the inflorescence. Umbels terminal and lateral. Rays 10–15, up to 55 mm. long, rather irregular. Bracts several, small, linear, inconspicuous; bracteoles similar. Flowers with fine pedicels 6–12 mm. long when in fruit. Petals greenish-yellow, the outer scarcely radiate. Fruit c. 10 × 5 mm., oblong to elliptic, strongly dorsiventrally compressed; lateral wings c. 1·5 mm. wide, well developed, slightly emarginate at the base. Stylopodium conical, styles short and clubbed at the apex. Seed occupying only the upper 3/4 of the mericarp. Dorsal ribs filiform, well developed; vittae visible externally, 1 in each interval and 2 in the commissural face. Carpophore divided to the base.
