Information
culms fascicled, geniculate, suberect, ascending often from a few inches to 1 1/2 in. long, smooth, glabrous, many-noded, lower internodes short, not or slightly exserted, uppermost 1 or 2 by far the longest, long exserted; leaves rather numerous in the lower 1/3– 1/4 of the culm; sheaths thin, striate, smooth; ligules very delicate, short, ciliolate; blades linear-lanceolate to ovate-anceolate from a clasping broad base, acute or acuminate, 3/4–3 in. by 1 1/2–4 lin., flat or somewhat wavy; glaucous, margins rigidly ciliate or fimbriate, rarely smooth; spike slender, rigid or flexuous, 3–8 in. long, rather dense; axis smooth, terete; spikelets about 1 lin. long, linear-lanceolate; glumes scaberulous, 3–10 lin. long, very fine, flexuous, often purplish; valve less than 1/2 lin. long; pale under 1/4 lin. long; tip finely ciliolate; anthers 1/4 lin. long; grain almost 1 lin. long. null

Notes
Saccharum spicatum of Thunberg's Prodromus, 20, from Table Mountain, referred by him to Perotis latifolia in Prodromus, 192 (and in Fl. Cap. ed. i. 416; ed. Schult. 111), is Imperata arundinacea, Cyr., according to Nees; but there is no specimen of it in Thunberg's herbarium.
