Climbing or trailing herb to 12 m; stems ± crisped-pubescent. Leaf-blade broadly ovate, cordate, conspicuously sinuate-dentate, hispid becoming scabrid above, pubescent on veins beneath, (5–)11–16(–18) x (7–)12–19(–26) cm, palmately 5-lobed, lobes ovate-triangular or triangular; petiole 2–13 cm long, pubescent. Flowers sweet-scented, opening at night. Male flowers mostly racemose, racemes 8–36 cm long. Peduncle 3–21 cm long. Bracts obovate, pale green, cucullate, 8–35 mm long. Pedicels 3–25 mm long. Hypanthium cylindrical, yellowish-green, (15–)19–26(–32) mm long. Sepals linear-lanceolate, (6–)8–11(–13) mm long. Petals white to pale yellow, 19–48 mm long. Female flowers solitary. Pedicel 1–5.5 cm long. Ovary ellipsoid, densely villous, 15–26 mm long. Hypanthium obconic-cylindrical, 11–16(–22) mm long. Sepals and petals like those of male flowers. Fruit ellipsoid, (4–)6–11(–14) x 3–4.5(–5) cm, glabrescent. Pedicel 2–7 cm long. Seeds (6–)8.5–10 x (3–)4.5–5 x 1–1.5 mm.
