Information
Perennial herb up to 16–30 cm. tall; stems simple, glabrescent or with 2 lines of hairs, presumably several from a woody rootstock. Leaves in whorls of 3–4; blades ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 2–6 cm. long, 1–2.2 cm. wide, acute at the apex, cuneate at the base, sparsely hairy above, densely so on the main nerves beneath or glabrescent save for marginal ciliae; petioles 0–1 mm. long; stipules small with 3 subulate lobes up to 4 mm. long. Flowers bluish green or dark purple, in small dense terminal inflorescences ± 3 cm. across; peduncles ± 5 mm. long. Calyx-tube ± glabrous, obconic, ± 1.5 mm. long; lobes glabrous, narrowly triangular to lanceolate, the largest 2.5–3.5(–6) mm. long, 1–1.5 mm. wide, others intermediate or minute (1 mm. long, 0.3 mm. wide). Corolla-tube 5 mm. long, widened at the apex to 1.5–2.5 mm., glabrescent outside, throat very densely hairy; lobes oblong-elliptic, 2.5–3 mm. long, 1 mm. wide. Long-styled flowers: stamens completely included; style exserted 1.5 mm.; stigma bifid, the lobes 1.5 mm. long. Short-styled flowers with anthers exserted 2 mm. Capsules not seen.
