Information
Herb 45–90 cm. tall,? annual, biennial or a short-lived perennial (but habit of typical race not certain), stems hairy when young. Leaves ovate to ovate-oblong or elliptic, 5.5–14.5 cm. long, 1.5–6.3 cm. wide, acute at the apex, cuneate at the base, thin and membranous, sparsely or moderately pubescent above and on the venation beneath; petiole 0.3–3.5(–7) cm. long; stipules with 4–7 setae up to 6 mm. long from a base 0.5–3.5 mm. long, hairy. Inflorescence a small lax cluster ± 1.5 cm. wide or trichotomous; individual cymes lax, few-flowered, 2–3 cm. wide; flowers white or lavender-blue; peduncles 0–6.5 cm.; pedicels ± 1.5 cm. long. Calyx-tube 1–1.5 mm. long, 1–1.5 mm. wide, hairy; lobes unequal, the longest lanceolate, (3–)4–8(–10) mm. long, 1–3.5 mm. wide, rest 1–2.3 mm. long, 0.25–0.5 mm. wide. Buds characteristically clavate. Corolla-tube 6.5–10(–11) mm. long, 0.8–1.5 mm. wide at the base, abruptly expanded at the apex to 1.5–2.5 mm. for 1.5–2 mm., the resulting dilated portion being urceolate, all hairy outside; lobes ovate, 1.8–3 mm. long, 1–1.75 mm. wide, acute, hairy on the main nerve outside. Stamens completely included. Style glabrous, exserted 0–2.5 mm.; lobes of stigma 0.75–1.5(–2) mm., mostly practically immersed in the dense throat hairs, sometimes the lower parts immersed in the corolla-tube. Capsules obtriangular or oblong-ovoid, 2.5–5 mm. long and wide, prominently ribbed, glabrous or pubescent. Seeds minute, 0.5 mm. long, bluntly angular.
