PELARGONIUM reflexum E. Mey. [family GERANIACEAE], ! non Pers.
HoareƦ theiantha E. & Z. [family ], ! 490, ex parte.
Information
leaves on hispid petioles, oblong, obtuse, entire or lobulate or repand, broad at base, glabrous on the upper surface, ciliolate, sparsely pubescent beneath; stipules subulate, scarious; peduncles elongate, branched, patently hispid; umbels densely many-flowered, with lanceolate, villoso-canescent bracts; calyx tube twice as long as the bracts, villoso-canescent, as are also the oblong, mucronate, white-edged segments; petals scarcely twice as long as the cal.-lobes, narrow-obovate. I cannot find any description or figure agreeing with this plant, which seems distinctly characterized by its oblong, slightly carnose leaves, hispid scapes and very densely crowded, short flowers. The petals also are of a colour unusual in this section; the two upper being greenish yellow, the lower white.
Distribution
SOUTH AFRICA Near the Great Fish River, Drege! Karroo, near Gauritz River, E. & Z.! Kamanassie Hills, George, Dr. Alexander Prior! (Herb. T.C.D., Hook., Sond.)
Notes
E. & Z's H. theiantha is a fictitious species, founded on the scape and root of this plant, combined with a leaf of some Composite, probably of a Sphenogyne! as appears by Ecklon's specimen in Herb. Sond.
