Names

Information
Tufted perennial; culms 30–100 cm. high, ascending. Leaf-blades broadly linear to narrowly lanceolate, 8–30 cm. long, 8–19 mm. wide, acuminate. Inflorescence composed of 2–3 racemes borne on an axis 1–6 cm. long; racemes 2–11 cm. long, usually with a few of the spikelets paired (sometimes the second spikelet represented only by a tooth on the pedicel), the rhachis flat and 1.5–2 mm. wide. Spikelets broadly elliptic to rotund, (2.5–)2.8–3.5 mm. long; lower glume present on at least some of the spikelets as a triangular scale up to 1.5 mm. long; upper glume and lower lemma papery, glabrous to pubescent; upper lemma finely striate, brown at maturity.
