Information
Densely tufted perennial with shortly rhizomatous woody rootstock, up to 200 cm high, usually pilose or hispid with tubercle-based hairs, rarely glabrous; leaves linear, 15–50 cm x 2–10 mm. Panicle oblong, 10–30 cm long, the primary branches ascending, spicate, the secondary usually absent or very short. Spikelets oblong, 2.5–4.1 mm long, glabrous, with a groove on the back, apiculate; lower glume broadly ovate, 1/4–1/3 the length of the spikelet, 1- to 3-nerved; upper lemma conspicuously transversely rugose.
Range
S1–3 tropical to South Africa.
