Information
Creeping annual, rooting from the lower nodes; culms 20–100 cm. high. Leaf-blades broadly linear to narrowly lanceolate, 2–15 cm. long, 6–20 mm. wide, pubescent to velvety tomentose. Inflorescence of 2–5 racemes on a common axis 2–6 cm. long; racemes 2–6 cm. long, bearing single spikelets on a narrowly winged glabrous rhachis (but the pedicels with a few bristles). Spikelets broadly elliptic, plumply plano-convex, 3.5–5 mm. long, cuspidate; lower glume cuff-like, up to 1/4 the length of the spikelet, truncate, upper glume conspicuously 11-nerved, firmly membranous, tuberculate, the tubercles often bearing spines or bristles; lower lemma 7-nerved, chartaceous, tuberculate; lower palea with hyaline centre (1/3–1/2 the width) flanked by wide coriaceous strips along the keels; upper lemma not much shorter than the lower, submuricate, with a mucro 0.5 mm. long.
