Information
Reed-like rhizomatous perennial; stems robust, up to 400 cm high, firm, erect; ligule a line of hairs. Inflorescence ovate to narrowly lanceolate with the racemes overlapping or linear with the racemes ± distant, 8–40 cm long; racemes simple or compound, 3–20 cm long. Spikelets narrowly ovate to broadly elliptic, plump, 2.5–3.5(–4) mm long, glabrous to hispid; lower lemma acute to acuminate, rarely with a subulate awn-point up to 3 mm long; upper lemma 2–3 mm long.
Range
S2 tropical and South Africa and Madagascar.
