plant 1/3–1 ft. high; stem moderately stout; leaves radical and cauline, numerous, spreading or suberect, linear or lanceolate-linear, acute, somewhat rigid, 1–3 in. long, reduced upwards into the bracts; scapes 1/3–1 ft. high, with narrow sheaths above; spikes subcorymbose, 1–2 in. broad, many-flowered; bracts lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, acuminate, 1/2– 3/4 in. long; pedicels 1/2– 3/4 in. long; flowers medium-sized, white, slightly veined with green on the dorsal sepal, and the petals and lip deep brown or nearly black; dorsal sepal galeate, obovate from a narrow base, obtuse, concave or somewhat conduplicate, subsaccate above the middle, 5–6 lin. long; lateral sepals oblique, ovate-oblong, obtuse, flat, with a fleshy keel near the apex, 5–6 lin. long; petals oblique, broadly oblong, truncate, minutely denticulate, fleshy, about 3 lin. long; lip rhomboid-oblong, subacute, fleshy, 3 1/2 lin. long; column 2 1/2 lin. long; anther reflexed; rostellum erect, trifid at the apex, concave, with oblong bidentate side lobes; stigma pulvinate. null
