Information
Plant glabrous; twigs becoming slightly quadrangular, then terete. Leaves alternate, ultimately crowded on short shoots; petiole 2–5 mm long; blade slightly fleshy, often slightly glaucous, ovate or elliptic to slightly obovate, bluntly pointed to rounded at apex, cuneate to rounded at base, 1.5–5 × 1–3.5 cm, with 1–2 pairs of strongly ascending nerves from near the base. Flowers 2–4 in very shortly pedunculate umbels in the axils and mostly at older nodes; peduncle 1–2 mm long; pedicels 1–2 mm long; bract cupular, 1.5–2 mm long, with a short lobe and keeled to slightly spurred beneath. Receptacle 1 mm long; calyx tubular, 3–5 mm long, truncate to slightly lobed. Corolla (1.5–)2–3.2 cm long, yellow or greenish yellow fading orange, sometimes red above, opening by a unilateral split to calyx; tube (6–)7–13 mm long, unappendaged; lobes linear, reflexed, broadly expanded at base to form narrow roundly protruding pouches around vents of maturing buds. Filaments with a very small tooth in front of the anther. Berry red, obovoid, 8–10 × 6 mm.
Range
N1–3 extending into the Rift Valley region of Ethiopia.

200–1700 m.
