Information
Shrub or small tree, up to 8 m. tall; branches with straight spines up to 2.5 cm. long. Leaf-blades elliptic-ovate or -oblong, apex shortly acuminate, base obtuse to rounded, papyraceous to subcoriaceous, glabrous, dark green and glossy, rather coarsely serrate-crenate, 6–16 cm. long, 3–6 cm. broad; lateral nerves 4–6 pairs, tertiary ones ± parallel, rather obvious on both faces, the proper reticulation being ± obscure; petiole 0.4–1 cm. long. Flowers solitary, white and somewhat waxy, much resembling those of O. spinosa, on a peduncle 1–2 cm. long. Sepals suborbicular, ± 1 cm. in diameter. Petals obovate-oblong, ± 2.5 cm. long and 1.5 cm. broad. Stamens with oblong anthers (1.5–2 mm.). Style 5 mm. long, the 6–8 free stigmatic and ± recurved branches ± 3 mm. long, with capitate stigmas. Fruit subglobular, 4–4.5 cm. long, 5.5–6 cm. across, yellow, smooth, with 8 longitudinal slightly prominent markings. Seeds ovoid, ± flattened, 6–7 × 3–4 mm., light brown. Fig. 6/9–11.
