Names
OLEA kilimandscharica Knobl. [family OLEACEAE], in N.B.G.B. 12: 200 (1934); T.T.C.L. 393 (1949). Type: Tanganyika, Kilimanjaro, N. side, Schlieben 5065 (B, holo.!, BM, iso.!)
Information
Tree, 15–20 m. tall, the final branches terete, grey, with numerous projecting lenticels. Leaves of mature trees oblong-lanceolate, elliptic, to elliptic-obovate, acute and shortly and very acutely mucronate, 7.9–9.5 cm. long, 3–3.8 cm. broad, subcoriaceous, greyish or olivaceous and shining on the upper surface, fulvous and dull on the lower, scaly on both surfaces and especially on the lower, otherwise glabrous. Inflorescences axillary, with white flowers.
Range
DISTR. T2 endemic on Kilimanjaro.
Altitude range
1200–2000 m.
